Batch Operations in Photoshop

Page history last edited by Anonymous 3 yrs ago

Many computer programs have useful presets that general users will appreciate. However, in advanced programs such as Photoshop, the needs of the user are not assumed, and many very basic elements of general tools are provided, while advanced tools need to be created by the end user in the form of a scripted action. This allows a powerful program to be free from presets that would be ignored by most users.

Photoshop’s actions are created in the simplest way: they are recorded from the actions of the user as a specific command in sequence. As with all settings in Photoshop, Actions can be saved as a file and transferred between computers.

On the TLC Website, you will find links to a set of actions for resizing and saving photos. {insert link here} Load the actions into Photoshop:

1: Make sure that the “Actions” Palette is open by selecting “Actions” from the “Window” Main Menu. It should have a check mark next to the window item.

2: In the actions palette (seen at right), make sure that you have the appropriate actions loaded. If not, click on the flyout button (top left circle containing a triangle) and choose “Load Actions.” Load the appropriate file.

3: In Photoshop’s “File” menu and “Automate” sub menu, choose the “Batch” option.

Choose the following options:

Chose the set “Resize Actions” and whatever action to use.

Set the source to “Folder” and choose the folder to operate on.

Set the destination to “Folder” and choose the destination folder. Also choose “Override Action ‘Save As’ Commands”

Finally, enable all compatibility options, and click “OK”

The Action will run, and your photos will be saved into the folder you created.
